‘ OLIVIA WAS RIGHT — IT WASN’T HER FAULT.But then how come it felt like her fault? She was BLAMING HERSELF — HEARING THE BLAME IN HER HEAD. She wanted so much to be as STRONG as her aunt, as strong as her father, but she felt like she was always failing. With her own lip TREMBLING, Alex took in what Olivia was saying and nodded, although TEARS streaked down her face. “I sh-should have been stronger though, Aunt Liv — should’ve been like you and Dad, ya know? I should’ve KNOWN better than to let some guy in my dorm! He — He was just so SWEET in the beginnin’.” Alex told her, shaking her head. She SMILED slightly, biting down on her lip. “—I don’t FEEL like a fighter, Aunt Liv. Feel like a failure — like some stupid slut. I should have KNOWN — any guy that wants to come up to your dorm wants somethin’. I just —I didn’t know.” The naivety of the girl was SWEET and unspoiled, so PURE, as she CRIED.
“We — We CAN’T tell Dad, right? He — He’ll go ballistic, Liv. He’ll — go nuts. And my mom — they’ll pull me out of school, make me go back to Georgia. And I wanted SO HARD to be here!” Alex exclaimed, new tears appearing on her slightly bruised face. She bit down on her lip, shaking her head. “You have to tell him that I’ll be okay — tell him that I can’t go back there. With you, I KNOW i’m safe here still.” Alex told Olivia, hugging her again. “You — You promise you won’t let him hurt me again?” As Alex got up on shaky legs, she nodded and as if in a trance, took the clothes her Aunt Olivia gave her and going to change.
“Liv — what’s going on? She okay?” She could hear Rollins ask her as Alex stood, hidden behind the doorway for a second. “Poor kid, looked like hell when she came in here.” She heard Carissi say as Alex entered, smiling WEAKLY, best she could at them, and going back over to Olivia, her protector. “Can I just — stay by you, Aunt Liv? Just for a little while? It’s okay if we — tell them and everythin’, talk about what happened with ‘em. I KNOW I’m safe here — I just don’t want to go back to my dorm room.” Her BIG blue eyes looked up at Olivia, as if pleading.
NO AMOUNT OF TRAINING OR even experience can prepare one for something like this when it hits so close to home , and as alex clings to her still , olivia feels her heart nearly breaking . no one should experience this level of pain and hurt , let alone someone so young , and all the lieutenant wishes to do now is to be able to go back in time and keep any of this from happening … but alas , such a thing isn’t possible . “ no , you can’t tell yourself that . do you understand me ? this is not your fault , and you got out of their on your own . that makes you strong — that makes you a fighter . ” but words aren’t always enough for everyone , even more so when it comes to convincing someone else of something they’re so keen and set on believing in . if only olivia could take the pain away .
THE FEAR ALEX FEELS IN telling her father is understandable , but doing just that is unavoidable . the detective won’t keep that from her friend , for he has a right to know what’s happened to his daughter . “ honey , we have to . i realize you don’t want him to know , but he needs to know . ” she pulls alex in for a tight hug once more , trying to console the young woman so that panic might hopefully dissipate . “ they won’t pull you out of school , but they might insist on coming here to you … whatever happens though , i do promise he won’t hurt you again . i keep my word , alex . if there’s nothing else you need to know about me , that alone is enough . ”
AT LEAST THE WOMAN CAN stand and move on her own , even if she does seem to be in a trance for now . such a thing is , sadly , normal post a traumatic event ; no one would hold it against alex . with attention on amanda as she enters the office a few minutes later , though , she’ll give a nod and look to her niece once more before they’re both exiting the room and walking out . “ of course , alex . you can stay with noah and me for as long as you need . ” looking to her team , one arm wrapped about the girl’s shoulder to keep her close , olivia goes on . “ i want everyone in the conference room . we’ve got a new case to discuss . ” she knows she won’t be able to be on this case herself , as family is involved , but she intends to have the others work it to the best of their abilities ; they’re all family , blood be damned .
‘ FOR THE FIRST TIME TONIGHT, ALEX FELT SAFE. In her Aunt Olivia’s arms, she was always safe and she KNEW that no matter what monsters were out there, as long as Olivia was there, all was okay. Her KIND voice draws Alex out of her daze, looking into the CONCERNED eyes of Olivia and tears automatically STREAMED down her bruised face. Rollins and FInn had ushered Alex and Olivia into her office, for PRIVACY, and Alex sat on the couch, still CLINGING onto her aunt. “ I — I was — on a da-date. This — really sweet guy, Aunt Li-Liv — he was so sweet. He’s in my anatomy class — he’s been flirtin’ with me since the beginnin’ of the semester. I NEVER thought a guy like him would like me, ya know? He’s OLDER too — twenty-one and everythin.” Her SWEET, broken spoke. So NAIVE and she could already hear her parents, her father especially, telling her to be CAREFUL, that THINGS ain’t the same here in the city.
“ We — We had a DATE, a study date, he said — and he wanted to come up to my dorm, because he GAVE me flowers, Aunt Liv — so sweet. I invited him up and we were just talkin’ and then he goes in and starts to KISS me and I kiss back — I like him, I wa-wanted it, but — “ Alex was SHAKING violently, shaking her head. “He kept touchin’ and I — I got SCARED. I barely know him and I wanted to slow down. I kept tellin’ him, Aunt Liv, that I didn’t want to do that, but he got ALL MAD at me!” She exclaimed, shaking her head. “He went — He went crazy! He SMACKED me, twice, and I was so scared, threw the flower vase at the wall, kept cursin’ at me, tellin’ me I was a whore – and when I FOUGHT BACK, he — he punched me, ripped my dress , kept — kept hittin’ me!” Alex looked to Olivia, shaking so badly, the POOR THING.
Visibly shaken, Alex CLUNG onto Olivia, crying into her shoulder. “I — I FOUGHT back, I got away just as he — He was goin’ to unzip his pants, but I punched him, like you and Daddy told me, remember? And I got away — and I just — before I knew it, I was comin’ here. Daddy always SAID to come to you if I got hurt.” Her LIP trembled, shaking her head. “I’m so SORRY, Aunt Liv — I didn’t mean to disturb ya work and — I know ya so busy with Noah and — I SHOULD have been stronger, Aunt Liv. I shouldn’t have let him hit me like that and I know he didn’t do anythin’ else, but … I should’ve been STRONGER, like you!”
SHE WILL NOT SPEAK A word to the young woman in her arms , intent upon hearing all that needs to be said before making any leaps or judgments . she’s gentle but quick to relocate them after fin and amanda’s prompting , but not once does the female let go of alex as the other continues to cling to her . she can’t begin to understand her position , despite olivia having had her own experiences with nearly the same thing , because not everyone responds to these traumas the same way ; the lieutenant has been exposed to the atrocities of mankind and the horror they cause , but alex has not . that is one way they differ … a great way they differ .
NOT A SECOND IS WASTED after the other finishes , her response firm and assured . “ i want you to know that this wasn’t your fault , alex . do you understand that ? ” hand continues to stroke the others hair slowly , aiming toward full and complete comfort . “ what happened was not your choice , but his . do not put that on yourself … and you fought back, honey . you fought back , and he didn’t get a chance to do what he wanted . ” eyes shut tight , olivia taking a slow and deep breath as she attempts to calm herself ; they’d find this young man . they’d make him pay for what he’d done … had he done this to others ? the notion is haunting . “ you’re a fighter . ” they’d have to contact her father , as well ; rick couldn’t be kept in the dark about this .
ALLOWING A FEW SECONDS OF silence to fall between them now , olivia tilts her chin down and presses a lingering kiss to the top of the other’s head . “ let’s get you changed , okay ? i have some of my clothes here … they might be a bit big on you , but it’s better than what you’re wearing … we’ll need to take what you’re wearing , though . is that alright ? ” they’ll need it for testing , just in case , but she wants to make sure the young female in her arms is ready and willing to cooperate in all of this . she won’t ask for a name , she won’t even ask if he’s still at her dorm , though it will come ; all in good time . she’ll slowly untangle herself from alex now , looking down worriedly at the other . “ i won’t him touch you again , i promise . ”
